Joe grew up in Loon Lake, WA. He graduated from Deer Park High School, where he wrestled and enjoyed all things outdoors. He attended Montana State University, obtaining a B.S. in Exercise Science, and earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of Montana. As an undergrad, Joe spent an extensive amount of time in the MSU movement science lab performing VO2 max, body mass, and general fitness/nutritional assessments on various collegiate athletes. He also volunteered as an adaptive ski and water aerobics instructor.
When not at work, he enjoys spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, skiing, mountain biking, bouldering, or doing anything else he can talk his wife, Baylee, into doing.
Joe is very passionate about improving his patient's overall quality of life by utilizing evidence-based orthopedic practice, exercise prescription, current research, personalized home programs, and education. Which in turn empowers clients with the knowledge and tools necessary to achieve individualized goals while becoming independent during their fitness or rehab journey!
In 2012, I switched majors from engineering to exercise science, with aspirations to apply for PT school. I had always been interested in the human body, passionate about sports/exercise, and had a heavy heart for people struggling with chronic pain after losing my sister to health complications due to a car accident turned opioid addiction.
Fast forward 7 years, and I earned a doctorate in Physical Therapy and started my career with the U-District in Spokane. I loved my time in town, but I had always envisioned owning a business and working closer to home. In the fall of 2021, Bay & I signed a lease in downtown Deer Park, and 509 Wellness was born.
My passion and motivation lie in our mission to "Redefine wellness through strength, connection, and integrative health".
I want to work with people WHO WANT MORE OUT OF LIFE. Whether you are a PT client or group class member, I'm motivated by people who want to continue to seek improvement and optimization. Age is just a number, squats aren't bad for your knees, and you should be able to chase your kids in the backyard. The hardest part is starting. Luckily, once you take the jump, there's an entire community at 509 that will help hold you accountable and consistent once you begin YOUR wellness journey. I hope to see you in the gym soon!
